WHAT IS BEREAVEMENT HOSPITALITY MINISTRY?
Bereavement Ministry is a response to a need on the part of the grieving to feel Christ’s love in a time of crisis and pain, and a need on the part of the caring community to heed Jesus’ call to bring his love to those who are suffering.
The ministry was formed in 1996. It continues to grow and at present has many volunteers who find it a most rewarding experience to be able to help our parishioners in some way during their time of need.
Bereavement hospitality volunteers are called upon to provide food for the luncheons that are offered to our parish family. We have teams each with a team leader. The teams are called on in turn. The leader contacts team members to request food as needed for the number of guests expected. Usually the volunteers are asked to provide a vegetable, salad, or dessert. The parish provides the main entrée and beverages. At times you may be asked to help serve or set up fro the luncheon or perhaps to come after lunch to help clean up. Please consider joining. For information and/or to volunteer, call Pat Hanna at 410-766-5070 ext. 31.
“I have spent a lot of time thinking about how to keep the funeral luncheon program up and running. It is such a wonderful ministry and really what brought us to Holy Trinity. Our daughter, Lynley, was a parishioner – we were at St. Bernadette’s – and we started going to 8 AM Sunday Mass at Holy Trinity so we could get an early start to spend the day with Lynley when she was in the hospital. One week we put a note in the collection basket to have her name put on the prayer list and the next morning Fr. Gene was there to visit. After her death, Fr. Gene told us about the funeral luncheon ministry and it was such a blessing to us. We both have large families and where do you go to on three days’ notice with 175 people? The luncheon took the weight of the world off our shoulders at a very chaotic time. It made us decide that we would like to be part of this parish and the ministry. I always say it is such a unique ministry as you never know when you will have one; how many people will really come; what time they will get back to church. Solomon would have a hard time with this one!” Karen
Please consider becoming a part of this very rewarding ministry. Call the Parish Center for information.
